The lads of One Direction have certainly made history with their fans – through five years of incredible ups and downs it seems that they’ve truly been on a journey together. There have been many times during the last five years that the fans have relied on the boys for happiness, and in turn, the boys have relied on the fans as well. There is nothing like the way Liam, Niall, Louis, and Harry can make their fans happy. Liam has been called One Direction’s superhero – and it’s easy to see why, he’s truly held the band, and the fandom together. We couldn’t pick a better person to look up to.
To bring more attention to the acts of kindness the boys do each day, and to promote #HistoryDay we picked just 5 times he made fans smile through One Direction’s history so far.
5. The time he walked down a selfie line for fans
While some fans said Liam’s smile was fake in these photos; you’ve got to admit that he went above and beyond as he walked down a line of fans who were anxiously awaiting selfies with him. He went out of his way to accommodate to each fan waiting and did so without complaining. Most celebs are only allotted time to make one or two stops in such large crowds, but Liam gave each of these fans a personal experience. This was such a sweet move on his part.
4. When Liam takes the time to read fan signs
One Direction fans have an incredible time at their concerts, the boys engage in friendly on stage banter, interact with their fans through the show, sing their hearts out during their best songs, and Liam stops for a bit – in each show – to read some of the signs that the fans make for the lads. Some of them are sweet, some are sentimental, and others are funny or even a bit raunchy – but they’re all in good fun. This is one of the ways the fans feel even more connected to the boys and Liam never let fans down when it came to appreciating their work and acknowledging it!

Liam, like the rest of the lads in One Direction, had a rough year full of rumors and speculation – especially when it came to their hiatus. Liam took the time to thank the fans for everything they’ve done in the last five years at the same time he promised fans that there was so much more to come. In the series of tweets he posted he really let fans know how important they are to him and how incredible this journey has been for everyone. It made fans feel secure in their trust in the lads and since this date he’s done nothing but back up the promise that they’ll be back – for as much as fans love the boys, they love fans right back – if not more.
2. His painted face at the Cinderella Ball
Liam assisted Louis in hosting a beautiful Cinderella Ball in 2015 and one of our favorite moments had to be when Louis won a bid on stage which left Liam getting his face painted – and he handled it like a champion. Liam is an idol for many fans for many reasons, but for us, this is one of the best things he’s taken the time to do. He walked around for the rest of the ball with a sweet tiger/fairy type design on his face, proudly wearing it as he and Louis made the nights of these sweet kids feel like a dream world. Liam is truly an angel on earth.
1. When he snuck out to visit a fan in the hospital at 1 am
This story brought tears to our eyes and it had to be our number one Liam fan encounter. When he found out that Kenz couldn’t make it to their One Direction show he took some time to spend with the fan – surprising her at the hospital at 1 am. Liam has a heart of gold and we can’t imagine how surprised and excited she must have been to see Liam walk into her room and spend some time getting to know her. What a special experience for Kenz and a humbling one for Liam.
Liam is truly One Direction’s superhero and beacon of hope. When you think about someone who sets a good example, betters himself after mistakes are made, and encourages us to embrace our lives – the good and the bad – you think of him.
