The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has commended Mr Peter Egbudom, the chairman of the 2023 IgboFest, Minnesota, United States, for his efforts in promoting Nigerian culture abroad.
Dabiri-Erewa expressed her appreciation during her meeting with the IgboFest 2023 chairman in her office in Abuja on Wednesday.
The boss of NIDCOM referred to culture as the essence and fabric of the people.
She stated, “I am delighted that you aim to make it larger this time. I hope you establish this festival on the global stage because this remarkable culture needs worldwide recognition.”
Egbudom, who was pleased to invite the NiDCOM boss to the event, urged the federal government to leverage the rich cultural heritage to attract foreign direct investment to Nigeria through tourism and culture.
The cultural ambassador also revealed that this year’s 28th edition of the festival will feature a showcase of diverse Nigerian cultures and cuisines from all regions of the country in order to promote Nigeria.
He commented, “The world is becoming increasingly interconnected. No matter where you are in the world, you are likely to interact with people from different cultures. This event will help us better understand and appreciate other cultures while embracing our diversity.”
The festival chairman further described it as a means to enhance the self-esteem of the younger generation by providing them with a sense of identity, engagement, and diversion from issues such as depression and substance abuse.
The festival, now in its 28th edition, is scheduled to take place on August 11th and 12th, 2023, in Minnesota, US.
