RUUMER are exactly the girls who you want to listen to on the dance floor and everywhere in between. The sister duo are pure popstars in the making and ones you should keep your eyes on. CelebMix chatted with the duo about music, inspirations, and what they have planned for the future.
How would you describe your music?
We like to describe our music as Indie/Pop with an Urban influence. Think Gwen Stefani meets Charli XCX.
What is it like to work as sisters and collaborators?
The dynamic of working and collaborating together as sisters is amazing and thrillingly unique. We feel we are extensions of one another and we connect in a distinct way. The bond we have makes the creative process so easy because we are instinctively on the same page and wavelength about our art. Performing together is a whole other incredible dynamic as well. When we are one stage together there is an unspoken understanding and undeniable connection that we strongly feel is because of our sisterly bond.
Tell us about your single “Heels”
“Heels” is our latest RUUMER creation. The minute we heard it we knew we had to share it as soon as possible. We’ve always been incredibly inspired by the power of females. Heels are a stereotypical symbol of femininity, so wanted to throw a wrench in the stigma by writing a song about women doing badass things in their stilettos.
What is your inspiration behind your music?
We’ve always been strong advocates of feminism, so one of the main inspirations behind our music is female empowerment. We want to use our art as an outlet to communicate and share our beliefs. When we write, we always pull inspiration from our past experiences. It’s extremely important for us to create music that is authentic and personal. We like to think of our music as a window into our hearts, minds, and souls.
Who would you love to collaborate with?
One of our favorite artists right now is G-Eazy, dude is killing it. Would love to collab with him on a song. Also, would love to work with The Chainsmokers, they’re dope. And we can’t forget The Weeknd.
What’s next for RUUMER?
We’ve been in the studio creating over the past 2 years, so we have a ton of killer material ready to go. You can definitely expect new RUUMER music early 2017. We’re also in the process of developing some cool visuals, so keep an eye out for those as well. “HEELS” is just the beginning, we can’t wait to share more of what we’ve been working on.
