Causey was well-known in Athens as a member of The Jesters, a group of high school friends who produced rhythm and blues music throughout the Southeast for fifty years. However, Causey accomplished much more throughout his career, as he detailed in his website bio:

The humble beginnings of a 10-year-ukulele old’s strums propelled Davis Causey, an Athens staple, into a broad 60-year career that has taken him everywhere from playing with Marvin Gaye and Jackie Wilson to penning the music for Bonnie Raitt and the Carny movie soundtrack.

Prior to joining Chuck Leavell and Randall Bramblett in the Allman Brothers offshoot band Sea Level, Davis was a member of Gregg Allman’s second solo band. But the history of Davis and Randall goes far beyond Sea Level.

Longtime songwriting collaborators, the two composed “God Was In The Sea,” which was later covered by Grammy-winning musician Bonnie Raitt.

Davis has performed live with Randall for more than 50 years and contributed to all but one of his solo recordings.

In order to ensure that his influence is felt throughout the business, Davis has collaborated with a wide range of different musicians during his career, including Chuck Leavell, Kris Kristofferson, Eddie Floyd, Waylon Jennings, and Derek Trucks.

The funeral arrangements will be revealed by the family. The family and loved ones will share details about the obituary, funeral, and life celebration at the appropriate time. We will do our best to keep you updated on them.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to the deceased’s family and friends, who have been struggling with the loss of such an intelligent and compassionate individual.
