Hot New Hip Hop reported this week that there may be a new album coming out soon from the D*MN creator, Kendrick Lamar. According to the outlet, it was revealed earlier this week that Mr. Lamar just signed a new publishing deal with Universal Music Publishing Group.

Kendrick, who is signed to Top Dawg Entertainment, has been sparking rumors over the last few months for a number of reasons, including for the creation of his record label, pgLang, which has signed artists like Baby Keem and more.

Additionally, fans have been wondering when the rapper is going to come out with a new project, and the news that he just signed with Universal has only added fuel to the flames. Jody Gerson, the CEO and Chairman of Universal Music Publishing Group announced they had begun working with Kendrick.

Jody wrote that Kendrick Lamar was not only one of the “greatest lyricists” to ever do it, but he has also promoted “much-needed” change in society through his music. She went on to write that UMPG and the other executives are thrilled and “honored” to be working with him.

As it was previously reported, Kendrick Lamar signed a deal with BMI this past year, but it isn’t currently known whether he has continued working with them in light of the UMPG publishing deal.

Regarding his work with Top Dawg Entertainment, there have been rumors that Kendrick has been thinking about leaving them, but he later dropped a video which he shared on the company’s webpage. Fans of Kendrick know he is rarely in the headlines these days on account of his own public statements and appearances.

With that said, however, Kendrick was in the headlines earlier this year over comments French Montana had made during an interview with Complex Magazine. Montana said to the journalist that while Kendrick had created “masterpieces,” it would be tough for him and Kendrick to go toe-to-toe at a festival because French Montana had more “hits.”

French Montana was then slammed by many of his contemporaries in the business, including Young Thug. The two rappers talked trash to each other on Instagram for a couple of days after.
