Steven Harrington Obituary, Death – Steven Louis Harrington, a devoted public servant and beloved community figure, passed away on Friday, November 17, 2023, at the age of 72, succumbing to kidney disease. Born on February 25, 1951, to Dean and Ione Harrington in Shell Lake, Wisconsin, Steve’s legacy extends far beyond his years. A cornerstone of his community, Steve dedicated a significant portion of his life to public service. He served with distinction in the Rice Lake Fire Department from 1977 to 2008, attaining the rank of captain in 1995 before retiring.
His commitment to community leadership continued as he was elected to the Rice Lake City Council from 2008 to 2012. Subsequently, he ascended to the role of mayor in 2012, faithfully serving until 2016. Steve’s passion for international connections was evident in 2015 when he, accompanied by his wife Kathy, visited Rice Lake’s sister city, Zamberk, in the Czech Republic. Their visit marked the 20th anniversary of the partnership between the two cities, highlighting Steve’s dedication to fostering global relationships.
Beyond his public service, Steve was an enthusiastic sports and NASCAR aficionado. He shared his love for NASCAR with his wife, Kathryn, creating cherished memories together. His eclectic interests also included a deep affection for his three dogs, Molly, Maggie, and Gus, who preceded him in death. Steve’s memory lives on through his loving family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Kathryn, and five children: Jennifer Shetler, Scott Harrington, Tiffeny Nelson, Gabriel Milton, and Matthew Milton. His impact extends to nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, creating a lasting legacy of love and family bonds.
Additionally, his sister, Sue Rudesill, mourns his passing alongside the rest of the family. A visitation to celebrate Steve’s life will be held at Appleyard’s Home for Funerals in Rice Lake, WI on Monday, November 27, 2023, from 4-7 pm. The funeral service will take place at Red Cedar Church, officiated by Rev. Todd Arneson, with interment in Nora Cemetery in Rice Lake on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at 11 am. Prior to the funeral service, there will be a visitation at the church.
